Scapin

By Jean-Baptiste Moliere

13 June 1984 – 07 July 1984 Studio Theatre

Playbox Theatre Company,

New Adaptation Theatre

A free translation of Moliere's farce by Rex Cramphorn and the Actor's Development Stream.

The press release announced:

"The plot is simple, involving young lovers, miserly and inflexible parents and confused identities; but eventual joy comes to all, when with the help of Scapin acting as mediator, psychologist and friend, the lovers are reunited and the fathers, bursting with parental pride, bless all on stage including the mischievous but by now chastened Scapin.

"The character of Scapin is a traditional figure of farce. A comic trickster with a silver tongue, who beguiles his unsuspecting masters into submission and hence a happy ending."

This production also toured to Hobart's Hoyts Prince Theatre in 1984.
